CRAFTS AND CHALLENGES
June 8-19 Last Stop on Market Street
"He wondered how his Nana always found beauty wherever he never even thought to look." Questioning and embracing the beauty of your circumstances whatever they may be. Watch and read along with the story Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena. Then, create the wonderful bus where CJ learns to see the wonderful in the mundane. Step 1: grab a snack or cereal box Step 2: use tape or glue to fold and cover white paper over all sides of the box Step 3: use colored construction paper (or color your own white paper) to cut simple shapes and rectangles to create the different parts of the bus. windows, wheels, signs, lights, etc. |

Have some fun creating your own croc hand puppet! Follow along with fellow art teacher, Ms. Cassie Stephens, as she creates a puppet using some construction paper, scissors, and some coloring materials.

Every day should be Earth Day! Especially now, as we see how fragile our planet and its inhabitants are, we can take the opportunity to celebrate the beauty this planet has to offer and make small changes in our daily activities that will benefit our earth. Below is your opportunity to search for the natural beauty and value of nature around us, or to turn waste into art! Learn more about Earth Day here
Earth Week Activity 1: Nature Photography
Become a nature photographer! Get outside and capture earth's natural beauty. Search for colorful plants and flowers, capture closeups of tiny bugs, sitting squirrels or perched birds, find reflections in puddles and streams.. There is much to capture through a lens if you slow down and take a moment to look around!

Earth Week Activity 2: Recycled Art Scavenger Hunt
Follow the scavenger hunt below to create art from recycled, natural, and waste materials! Search your closets, your recycling bins, (perhaps even your garbage can.. yuck!), and go outside to find different materials. Then use your creativity and your imagination to create a work of art. Earth Week is a reminder that nothing has to go to waste.. make something beautiful! |

The RAINBOW Color Wheel Challenge
Go on a color hunt! Search around your house our outside for some colorful objects! They can be toys, fruits and vegetables, supplies, clothes, or anything else that's bright and colorful. Arrange your objects in a circle to create a color wheel. For a simple color wheel, you can stick to just the primary and secondary colors arranging them in order clockwise from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. To challenge yourself, add in the tertiary colors red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple, red-purple. Refer to the color wheel below.

DRAWING PROMPTS & STARTERS
Students of all grade levels, you can practice your sketching and drawing skills, and improve your basic fine motor functions through these suggested silly, and engaging illustration prompts. You will be encouraged to use your imaginations and observational skills to create visual portrayals. Sketches can be quick 5 minute "warm up" activities, or you can develop your drawings into full art pieces, adding a background, details, and color
